Polyvinylchlorid (PVC) ist ein Kunststoff aus der Gruppe der Thermoplaste. Ohne weitere Zusätze ist Polyvinylchlorid hart und spröde. Durch die Zugabe von Weichmachern und Stabilisatoren wird PVC weicher und formbar. Aufgrund des hohen Chlorgehalts ist PVC schwer entflammbar. Wenn es jedoch brennt entstehen giftige Salzsäuredämpfe (HCl).
